NEET 2025 Tragedy: 2 Telangana candidates commit suicide fearing exam failure
Telangana- In a heartbreaking development following the NEET UG 2025 exam held on May 4, two students from Telangana died by suicide, fearing failure.
The candidates, Janga Pooja (18) from Jagtial and Rai Manoj Kumar (17) from Adilabad, reportedly took their lives after assessing their performance using the answer key.
According to NDTV, Janga Pooja, who had previously failed to secure a desired rank in 2023, had been undergoing coaching and hoped for better results this year. However, after comparing her answers post-exam, she feared another disappointment and ended her life.
Rai Manoj Kumar, the son of a schoolteacher, had also been preparing in Hyderabad. He, too, grew distraught after reviewing the answer key and took the extreme step.
These tragic incidents underscore the immense psychological pressure young aspirants face while preparing for highly competitive exams like NEET.
At present, the police have registered separate cases in both incidents and have started an investigation.
NEET is a national-level MBBS entrance exam in India, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to determine eligibility for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses. Over 22 lakh students had registered for the NEET exam held on May 4.
This year, the NEET exam was conducted in pen and paper-based mode at several exam centers in India and abroad. Based on the responses of the students, the NEET 2025 exam was the toughest exam since the year 2016. This year, the Physics subject was comparatively tougher than last year, while Chemistry and Biology were lengthy.
