Tamil Nadu Health Sector overhaul: Key posts filled, New deans appointed

Chennai: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Tamil Nadu government has appointed Dr. A. Somasundaram, Additional Director of Public Health and Preventive Services (covering both Primary and Urban Health Centres), who was promoted and appointed as the new Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He succeeds Dr. T. S. Selvavinayagam, who retired last month.
The government has filled several key positions in the State’s health sector, including the posts of Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine and Director of Medical and Rural Health Services. Similarly, Dr. D. K. Chitra, Additional Director in the Office of the Director of Medical and Rural Health Services (DMS), Chennai, will now serve as Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, replacing Dr. J. Rajamoorthy, who also retired last month, reports The Hindu.
In another key appointment, Dr. V. Sathia, Additional Director of Medical and Rural Health Services (ESI), has been named Director of Family Welfare. Alongside these changes, the government has issued transfer and promotion orders for deans of multiple government medical colleges across the State.
Dr. A. Aravind, dean of Omandurar Government Medical College, will now head Government Stanley Medical College (SMC), Chennai. Dr. P. Leo David, previously at Government Kilpauk Medical College (KMC), has been transferred to Government Kanyakumari Medical College, Asaripallam. Dr. V. Lokanayaki, dean of Government Karur Medical College, moves to the role of Additional Director of Medical Education, Selection Committee, in the Directorate of Medical Education and Research.
Other key postings include Dr. M. Poovathi taking over as dean of Government Thanjavur Medical College; Dr. M. Geethanjali leading Government Coimbatore Medical College; and Dr. K. Sathyabama being posted to Government Medical College, Krishnagiri. Dr. G. Hariharan will now serve as dean of Omandurar Government Medical College. Further appointments include Dr. M. Gayathri as dean of Government Medical College, Nagapattinam; Dr. R. Manonmani at Government Medical College, Tiruppur; Dr. M. Lucy Nirmal Medona at Government Villupuram Medical College; and Dr. M. Kavitha taking over as dean of Kilpauk Medical College.
In other changes, Dr. T. M. Manohar will lead the Government Dharmapuri Medical College, Dr. C. Ashokan will head the Government Medical College, Tiruvarur, and Dr. V. P. Mohan Gandhi will serve as dean of the Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College. Dr. E. Seenivasan has been appointed dean of the Government Sivagangai Medical College, reports the daily. Additionally, Dr. Priya Pasupathi will take charge as dean of Government Chengalpattu Medical College, while Dr. J. Srisaravanan will head Government Medical College, The Nilgiris.
Sanchari Chattopadhyay has pursued her M.A in English and Culture Studies from the University of Burdwan, West Bengal. She likes observing cultural specificities and exploring new places.
