32-year-old nurse dies after being set on fire by her husband

Nurse Set on Fire by Husband in Kishanganj
Patna: In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old nurse from Kishanganj succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, nearly two weeks after she was allegedly set on fire by her husband, who suspected her of infidelity.
According to the news reports, the victim, a nurse employed at a private nursing home, had sustained severe burn injuries after her husband, allegedly intoxicated her with sedative-laced tea and set her ablaze using petrol from his scooter’s fuel tank. The incident occurred on August 21 in their home located under the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station in Kishanganj district.

Before committing the crime, the husband reportedly sent their two children outside to play. He then locked the room after setting her on fire and fled the scene. Neighbours, alerted by the nurse’s screams, broke into the house, doused the flames, and rushed her to the hospital.
She was initially treated at MGM Medical College, then transferred to Purnia, and finally to a private hospital in Kishanganj, where she succumbed to her injuries, having sustained around 45% burns.
Before her death, the nurse reportedly gave a statement to the police, detailing the events of that night.
Speaking to TOI, Sadar SHO Abhishek Kumar Ranjan said, "Radha stated during treatment that Ganesh suspected her of speaking to another man. Under the influence of alcohol, he asked her to make tea, laced it with sedatives, and then set her on fire. After the incident, he locked the room and fled."
The mother of the deceased nurse revealed that her daughter had endured a decade-long abusive marriage. “They had been married for 10 years, but within a year of the marriage, he started beating her. He had been living as a ghar jamai (resident son-in-law) at our house for several years,” she said.
Police have launched multiple raids in search of the accused husband, who remains at large.
