Vasco to Get New 20-Bed Hospital and Dialysis Unit in Two Years

Gurgaon: In a bid to expedite the construction of a 700-bed Civil Hospital in Gurgaon’s Civil Lines, the Haryana government has formed a six-member expert committee to monitor the project’s progress. The committee will be responsible for reviewing and improving the existing plan prepared by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), facilitating the swift initiation of the construction process.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini chaired a review meeting regarding the construction process of the 700-bed civil hospital to be built in Gurugram. The hospital will be constructed as part of efforts to improve healthcare services in the region.

Dr Manish Bansal, Director General of Health Services (DGHS) of Haryana, emphasized in his letter that the committee’s role is to ensure the hospital is designed to meet modern healthcare standards and effectively cater to the needs of the community.

According to TOI, "The committee, which includes notable experts such as Rajesh Bhushan (retd health secretary, govt of India), Rajeev Kanojia (chief architect, health ministry), and MK Chawla (former executive director, NBCC), is expected to convene soon. They will review the CPWD's plan and submit their recommendations promptly," the letter read.

The hospital will occupy a sprawling 7.73-acre plot and will include various essential facilities, such as hospital service blocks, a mortuary, engineering services, and biomedical waste management facilities. The tender process for this hospital service has yet to be finalized.

In addition to these services, the hospital will also include a CT-MRI unit, departments of radiology and oncology, specialized sections for nebulization and immunization, as well as units for microbiology, clinical pathology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and hematology. Furthermore, the hospital will feature a laboratory for blood group serology and a transfusion center.

The need for a new Civil Hospital in the city arose after multiple incidents of roof collapse at the existing hospital building. The old Civil Hospital, which has long served the community, was rendered unsafe after the ceiling of the maternity ward collapsed multiple times between 2015 and 2016. As a result, the maternity ward of the hospital was relocated to Sector 10.

In 2016, the ICU ward also suffered a ceiling collapse, and following further assessments, the public works department recommended demolishing the entire building to avoid additional accidents.

Recognizing the urgent need for a new hospital facility, the health department acquired the entire parcel of land in Civil Lines in 2021, earmarking it for the construction of the new Civil Hospital.
