4,630 DM, MCh seats available in India, 557 approved for 2025-26: NMC releases tentative seat matrix

New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) released the tentative super speciality seat matrix for the academic year 2025-26.
As per the data released by the Apex Medical Commission, there are a total of 4,630 DM and MCh seats available this year. Among them, the NMC has approved 557 seats for the academic year 2025-26.
NMC MARB asked all Medical Colleges/Institutions to verify and confirm the number of seats displayed against their respective institutions. In case of any discrepancy, the Commission said that the same must be brought to the notice of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), NMC, along with supporting documents within 15 days from the date of this notice.
The notice issued by MARB on 12.3.2026 mentioned, "The number of seats available as on 27.02.2026 in various PostGraduate(Super Specialty) courses in Medical Colleges/Institutions after the inclusion of seats granted on or before 27.02.26 under the purview of the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the Academic Year 2025-26 is attached for the information of all stakeholders.
All Medical Colleges/Institutions are requested to verify and confirm the number of seats displayed against their respective institutions. In case of any discrepancy, the same must be brought to the notice of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), NMC along with supporting documents within 15 days from the date of this notice.."
The notice further added, "Kindly note that failure to report any discrepancy within the stipulated time may affect the updation of student details on the NMC Admission Portal by the respective college/institution. The LOPs for sanctioned PG seats for AY 2025-26 are in the process of being issued. The counselling authorities need not wait for the LOP's from institutions to include them in the counselling process. The matrix uploaded in the website shall be considered as valid document for counselling process."
In reference to the MARB notice, the NMC Secretary addressed the Director/Dean/Principals of all medical colleges/institutes. It mentioned in the notice "Reference is invited to Public Notice No. M-19011/13/2025/NMC/PGMARB (e8337538) dated 12-03-2026 [copy enclosed] issued by the Medical Assessment and Registration Board (MARB) of National Medical Commission (NMC) w.r.t. the above subject matter being self explanatory inter-alia duly attaching a list indicating the number of seats available as on 27.02.2026 in various Post-Graduate(Super Specialty) courses. All Medical Colleges/Institutions are requested to take note of all the instructions contained in it and to verify and confirm the number of seats and to bring any discrepancy to the notice of MARB within stipulated time. As intimated by MARB, the LOPs for sanctioned PG seats for AY 2025-26 are in the process of being issued. State-wise seat matrix released by the NMC shows that a total of 4,630 seats are available across states and Union Territories. Andhra Pradesh has 232 seats, Assam has 68 seats, Bihar has 50 seats, Chandigarh has 7 seats, and Chhattisgarh has 13 seats. Further, Delhi has 213 seats, Goa has 19 seats, Gujarat has 159 seats, Haryana has 39 seats, Jammu and Kashmir has 70 seats, and Jharkhand has 11 seats.
Meanwhile, Karnataka has 561 seats, Kerala has 266 seats, Madhya Pradesh has 132 seats, Maharashtra has 446 seats, Manipur has 7 seats, and Meghalaya has 4 seats. Additionally, Odisha has 190 seats, Puducherry has 6 seats, Punjab has 71 seats, Rajasthan has 380 seats, Tamil Nadu has 743 seats, and Telangana has 274 seats. Uttar Pradesh has 398 seats, Uttarakhand has 50 seats, and West Bengal has 221 seats.
