Top Medical Universities with Most ragging Complaints

Ragging
New Delhi- The Society Against Violence in Education (SAVE) published the "State of Ragging in India 2022-24" report. The report presents a analysis of incidents of ragging reported in Indian educational institutions during the period 2022-2024.
According to the report, a total of 3,156 complaints were registered on the national anti-ragging helpline from 1,946 colleges. Of these, medical colleges have become the major hub of ragging cases, accounting for 38.6% of total complaints, 35.4% of serious complaints and 45.1% of ragging-related deaths, even though medical colleges account for only 1.1% of the total students in India.
The report further lists the top medical universities where the most ragging complaints were received at the National Anti-Ragging Helpline during the period 2022 to 2024. As per the list, Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University, Jabalpur with 75 complaints, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh with 68 complaints, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, Maharashtra with 61 complaints, Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Jaipur, Rajasthan with 52 complaints and West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata, West Bengal with 39 complaints.

The report also makes actionable suggestions, including anonymous complaint mechanisms, increased monitoring of hostels and formation of dedicated anti-ragging squads. Therefore, SAVE urges educational institutions, policymakers and the media to take immediate action, including prioritising student safety through strict anti-ragging measures.
