Telangana Medical Council cracks down on 8 eye clinics, technicians performing surgeries

Hyderabad: Telangana State Medical Council (TGMC) inspections have uncovered a serious breach of medical regulations in Miryalaguda, exposing private eye clinics operating without qualified ophthalmologists. FIRs have been registered against eight facilities, and five ophthalmic technicians have been arrested in connection.
The inspections found that the registered doctors were practising elsewhere, mainly in Hyderabad. The eight private eye care facilities — Sri Venkateswara (SV) Eye Hospital, Sri Mahalakshmi Eye Hospital, Annapurna Netralayam, Yashasvi Eye Hospital, Shalini Eye Clinic, Rapha Vision Care Center, and Shiva Sai Eye Hospital — uncovered that none had on-site qualified ophthalmologists.

Council members stated that most of them claimed to hold a Diploma in Ophthalmic Assistant (DOA) qualification but were allegedly practising independently as eye specialists, “which is illegal without proper medical registration,” reports Deccan Chronicle.
As a result, the Council registered FIRs against these facilities, and police have arrested five ophthalmic technicians, along with a fake practitioner.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Dr. V. Naresh Kumar, Chairman of the TGMC Public Relations Committee, said show-cause notices are being issued to the involved doctors requiring them to appear before the Medical Ethics and Malpractices Committee. If their explanations are found unsatisfactory, the Council intends to recommend the suspension of their medical licences and will urge the District Collector to take further administrative action against the errant hospitals.
