Meghalaya grants Rs 2 crore aid to non-profit hospitals under new scheme

Shillong: The Meghalaya government has rolled out the Meghalaya Health Advancement Policy, under which non-profit hospitals will receive financial assistance of Rs 2 crore each to upgrade their facilities and services.
The scheme was officially launched on Monday by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, who handed over the first instalment of Rs 1 crore each to Tura Christian Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital, Tura. These two hospitals are among five selected not-for-profit institutions in the state to benefit from the initiative.

The funds are intended to be used for enhancing critical healthcare infrastructure, including the construction of new rooms, the procurement of essential medical equipment, and other facility upgrades. The minister stated that this support was a gesture of appreciation and a step toward sustainable healthcare.
According to the news reports, the State Health Department would release the second instalment upon receipt of the utilisation certificate for the first instalment. The Minister also praised the efforts of hospitals run by missionaries and charitable organisations in the state, adding that the government’s support is a token of appreciation for the invaluable services these institutions provide.
“It is not just financial support; it is our sincere gesture of appreciation. Often, the tireless service of our healthcare workers, sisters, doctors, and hospital administrators goes unnoticed. Today, I want to personally thank each one of you for the difference you are making in our people’s lives,” he added, Northeast News reports.
In addition to the two hospitals in Tura, grants will also be extended to charitable hospitals in Jowai and Shillong.
Sangma emphasised that it was not just financial aid, but a long-term investment in the well-being of the citizens, and that the government was committed to strengthening the institutions that had stood by the communities through thick and thin.
