Renowned Oncologist Dr S G Ramanan conferred Dr KV Thiruvengadam Health Care Excellence Award 2026

Chennai: Senior medical oncologist Dr S. G. Ramanan has been conferred the Dr K.V. Thiruvengadam Health Care Excellence Award–2026 in acknowledgement of his notable contributions to cancer treatment.
Dr. Ramanan, who serves at Apollo Cancer Hospital and is the managing trustee of Cancare Foundation, received the honour during a ceremony jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Madras East and Kauvery Hospital. He was recognised for prioritising patient-focused care, his commitment to strengthening oncology services, and his continued efforts to integrate scientific medical practices with compassion and humane treatment, reports The Hindu.
Dr. Ramanan S.G is a Senior Consultant – Medical Oncology at Apollo Cancer Centre, Chennai. He has significant experience in treating cancers of the breast, soft tissue, and bone sarcoma, and liquid tumours. He is a mentor and tutor for postgraduate medical oncology students. Dr. Ramanan is one of the Directors of Madras Cancer Care Foundation and is also a Founder Trustee of Cancer Research and Relief Trust and Cancare Foundation. He has several publications in peer-reviewed journals, both nationally and internationally, and has won several awards and accolades for his work.
He has completed his MBBS and MD in General Medicine and holds a DM in Medical Oncology. He also has certification in BMT from the University Medical Centre and ESMO. He is a Member of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP). He has served as a Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology at Apollo Cancer Centre, Chennai. He has served as the Faculty of the DNB Oncology at Apollo Cancer Centre, and he collaborated with the IIT MADRAS Biotech Department in the field of biobanking.
K. Narayanasamy, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, was the chief guest, and he presented the award to Dr S.G. Ramanan. Koushik MuthuRaja M., chairperson of the Dr. KVT Awards Committee, stated that this marks the 20th edition of the award, coinciding with the centenary year of Dr. Thiruvengadam's birth, reports The Daily.
Sanchari Chattopadhyay has pursued her M.A in English and Culture Studies from the University of Burdwan, West Bengal. She likes observing cultural specificities and exploring new places.
