My son was meritorious: Father of doctor killed in Jharkhand air ambulance crash
Ranchi: A young government doctor lost his life in a tragic air ambulance crash in Jharkhand, leaving behind grieving colleagues and a father who had invested his entire life’s earnings to see his son become a doctor.
Dr Vikas Kumar Gupta, who was posted at Sadar Hospital in Ranchi, was part of the medical team on board a Beechcraft C90 air ambulance operated by Redbird Airways Pvt Ltd when the aircraft crashed.
Bajrangi Prasad, father of Dr Vikas Kumar Gupta, sold every piece of land to make his son a doctor, hoping that one day he would serve society. Now, he is shattered and hopeless after losing his son in the plane crash.
Speaking to India Today, he said, “Sold all my land to make my son a doctor." With tears in his eyes, he gave the details of the conversation he had about the crash and said, "Yesterday, they said they were going from Ranchi to Delhi with a patient, so the plane was supposed to land at 7:11. I received a report at 8:00 that the air ambulance had crashed. After that, we had no further information. Then we received a tip-off that it had happened in the Chatra Simaria forest. That same son of mine was gone".
Talking about his son, Bajrangi Prasad said that his son has a seven-year-old son. He added that Vikas was a meritorious student and had completed his MBBS from Odisha's Cuttack. Now with the soul-earning member of the family gone, the family has nowhere to look for support.
