Madras HC Orders Doctor to Compensate for Failed Tubectomy

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court recently directed the medical officer at Government Medical College, Thoothukudi, to compensate a patient for a failed sterilization procedure.

Despite undergoing a tubectomy procedure at the hospital, the patient became pregnant. While considering the patient's plea alleging medical negligence during tubectomy, the HC bench directed the Registered Medical Officer, GMC Thoothukudi, to pay Rs 60,000 as compensation.

RTI reveals stalled progress on Indian medical services cadre, doctors renew demands
Over the years, members of the medical fraternity have been urging the Central Government to launch an Indian Medical Service Cadre on the lines of the Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service. Even though the
Union Government had expressed its interest to set up a different cadre to especially cater to the need of the healthcare sector, a recent Right to Information (RTI) reply by the Government indicated that there has been no real development in this regard.

Replying to the RTI application filed by Dr. Aman Kaushik, the Central Government revealed that even though a cadre review committee to consider the proposal for a separate IMS cadre was set up in 2015, the said committee failed to meet after 2019.

22-year-old NEET aspirant dies of suspected cardiac arrest in Kota

In an unfortunate incident, a 22-year-old NEET aspirant died at a roadside tea stall in Rajasthan's Kota district. Police suspect that the student died of a sudden heart attack.

The deceased has been identified as Tejkaran, a resident of Gadhwara village in Pali district. According to an ETVBharat report, Tejkaran was waiting at a tea stall when he suddenly fainted and fell on the ground. Seeing his condition, the tea seller immediately raised an alarm, and passersby came forward and took the young man to the hospital. After this, people nearby took him to the hospital. However, by the time he was brought to the hospital, he had died.

Chandigarh gears up for NEET UG 2025: Administration reviews exam readiness

The District Level Coordination Committee recently held a meeting in Chandigarh for going through the preparations for NEET 2025 for MBBS admissions this year.

At the meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav., preparations for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET UG) examination for the academic year 2025 were reviewed. The district-level coordination committee meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Director of National Testing Agency (NTA) and other officials of the departments involved in the conduct of the examination.
