NEET PG 2025: Supreme Court Asks NBE To Explain Cutoff Reduction
The Supreme Court of India asked the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to file an affidavit explaining why it sharply reduced the qualifying cut-off percentiles for NEET PG 2025, stating that the Court must be satisfied that the decision was not taken for any 'devious reason'.
Questioning the basis of the Board’s decision, the Division Bench of Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe observed that the issue requires balancing two important concerns. The Bench said that on one hand, there is a concern that medical seats should not remain vacant, while on the other hand, lowering standards excessively may affect the quality of postgraduate medical education.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has recently demanded that the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) be granted minority status and that its operations be resumed, stating that the investment made in the institution should not go to waste.

Illegal BAMS, BHMS Admissions: Supreme Court Orders Gujarat Colleges Probe
The Supreme Court of India has ordered an inquiry against six Ayurveda colleges in Gujarat for giving conditional admission to students in the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) courses even though they did not qualify the minimum NEET UG cut off.
At the same time, the top court refused to interfere with the Gujarat High Court’s decision, which had denied relief to these students.

The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has directed the Union Government and the National Medical Commission (NMC) to file their response in a Public Interest Litigation seeking the reinstatement of Respiratory Medicine as a structured subject in the MBBS curriculum.
During the last hearing on 23 January 2026, a Division Bench comprising Justice Anil S. Kilor and Justice Raj D. Wakode Court, on request of the counsel for the respondents, stood over the matter to 13 February 2026.
