SC seeks on free treatment for Poor at Private Hospitals
Accepting a PIL on the lack of free treatment for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) patients in private hospitals built on government lands or with government concessions, the Supreme Court issued notices to the Centre, states and Union Territories asking for a response on the matter.
A bench of Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justices N V Anjaria and Alok Aradhe was considering a PIL that raised serious concerns about private hospitals refusing free treatment to poor patients, despite receiving land and benefits from the government on the condition that they would do so.

NEET SS: Doctors express concern over vacant seats, demand another counselling round
Highlighting that several superspeciality seats are still vacant even after three rounds of National Eligibility-Entrance Test Superspeciality (NEET-SS) 2024 counselling, aspirants are urging the Government authorities to hold another round of counselling to prevent wasting these seats.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that more than 1500 super-speciality seats were lying vacant even after two rounds of National Eligibility-Entrance Test Super Speciality (NEET-SS) 2024 Counselling. Back then, the doctors had urged the authorities, including the National Board of Examinations (NBE), to lower the cut-off before the next round of counselling.

HC strikes down 79% reservation in Medical Colleges, Imposes 50% Cap in UP
The Allahabad High Court's Lucknow bench has quashed Uttar Pradesh government orders that resulted in over 79 percent reservation in government medical colleges in 4 districts.
The direction came on a petition by a NEET 2025 candidate who argued that the state’s orders between 2010–2015 unlawfully pushed reservation beyond the 50% cap, leaving just seven out of 85 seats for the unreserved category. Rejecting the state’s reliance on the Indira Sawhney case, the court ruled that any hike in reservation must follow due legal process. It directed the state to refill seats strictly in line with the UP Reservation Act, 2006, ensuring the 50% ceiling is not crossed.
